How it works

NetSent runs locally on Windows, polling your system every second with zero cloud dependency.

01
Query the OS
Every poll, NetSent calls netstat and Windows APIs to get a live snapshot of every TCP/UDP connection, including process name and PID.
02
Enrich & Analyze
Connections are tagged with port labels, geo-location, IP reputation, and suspicious-port flags — all without sending data outside your machine.
03
Act in real time
Block an IP with one click, swap your DNS preset, toggle the kill switch, or kill a process — changes hit the Windows Firewall and OS instantly.

Common questions

Is NetSent free? +
Yes. Completely free, no account required, no subscription. Download, install, done.
Does it phone home or collect data? +
No. NetSent runs entirely local. The only outbound requests it makes are: checking for updates (fetches version.json from netsent.dev once on launch), and IP geo-location lookups via ip-api.com when you're on the Connections page. No telemetry, no analytics, no accounts.
Why does it need admin rights? +
Windows requires elevated privileges to read certain network data, add or remove firewall rules, change DNS settings, and toggle the kill switch. NetSent will auto-prompt for elevation on launch. If you decline, most features won't work.
What is the kill switch? +
The kill switch sets your Windows Firewall policy to block all outbound traffic instantly. Every app on your machine loses network access until you disable it. Use it when you want to cut off everything — you can whitelist specific IPs to stay allowed through it.
Will it work on Windows 11? +
Yes. NetSent supports Windows 10 and 11, 64-bit.
What is IP reputation / the THREAT tag? +
On launch, NetSent downloads a curated list of known-malicious IPs from the ipsum threat feed (IPs that appear across 3+ public threat intelligence lists). If one of your active connections matches, the IP gets a red THREAT tag. It refreshes every 6 hours.
Is the source code available? +
Not yet open source, but I'm considering it. Follow the Discord for updates.

NetSent started because every network monitor I tried was either bloated, behind a paywall, or ugly. I built the thing I actually wanted to use — a clean, fast, dark-themed tool that works without an account, without phoning home, and without a subscription. Everything here is hand-written: the Electron main process, the renderer, the website.
